Athletics D. SMITH TO TRY AGAIN
Qualifying Time For Olympics /N.2. Press Association—Copyright; LONDON, July XI. D. Smith, of Auckland, la to make another attempt to return an Olympic Game* qualifying time of imin 49-2 sec for the 800 metres at White City on July 30. Smith has run in several races recently and his best time ha* been Imin 4BJtoec. He seems to have lacked a pacemaker for the first lap and been unable to produce sufficient speed on the second lap to make up that fraction of a second needed for qualification. The latest news of another potential New Zealand competitor in the Games, A. White, riding Telebrae, is that he is moving to Milan shortly. There are excellent training and stabling conditions in Milan and Telebrae will compete against the Italian Olympic team at Santa Maggoire early in August.
