THE FIELD
The scene of to-morrow’s national ploughing final is a 27-scre paddock on the 2Maere property of Miss Mary Divan, on Divans rood, about 2} miles north of Washdyke, on the Level, plain. It Is dose to Tlmaru’s airport. The field, which is only about * miles from the centre of Timaru, can be approached from the main highway between Christchurch and Umaru or from the highway between Washdyke and FairUe.
The property has been In the hands of the Divan family for more than 80 yean and Miss Divan has owned it for more than 23 years. In April this year she leased it to Mr A. C. Tomlinson, the husband of a niece.
Mr Tomlinson is at present running 500 crossbred ewes on it. He has 16 acres in Aotea wheat and 15 acres in young grass. Eight acres have been ploughed for a crop of peas for quick freezing and the match paddock will be used for another 14 acres of peas and 13 acres of chou moellier and swedes for next winter.
