Aero Club Duration Record Set In Glider

The Waiyarapa and Ruahine Aero Club ‘ announced today that a new dub duration record of four hours atid a half had been established by. Dr. Owen Haylock, of Palmerston North, in the club’s Bergfalke sailplane. Taking off from Hood aerodrome, Masterton, Dr.. Haylock was towed to his release height of 4000 ft over the Wainga river valley in the Tararua foothills, where he took advantage of the wave of rising air generated by the Tararua Ranges. These conditions enabled the glider to reach a height of 11,500 ft. During the course of his flight, Dr. Haylock passed over Eketahuna, Greytown, and Martinborough. •
