Cricket TEST ENDS IN DRAW

Match Ruined By Rain (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) MANCHESTER, July 26. The rain-spoiled fourth test between England and South Africa ended in a tame draw on the Old Trafford ground this afternoon. England, assured of victory in the five-match series after winning the first three games, declared in the mid-afternoon and set the Springboks the impossible task of scoring 185 runs in 107 minutes. The visitors were given no chance to force the pace and the match fizzled out. After rain washed out play on Thursday and Friday 'a draw always seemed probable, but at one stage this morning South Africa threatened to snatch a win when it gained the advantage in England’s second innings. England lost six for 101, but K. F. Barrington and D. Allen thwarted the tourists with a 90minute stand. Scores:— ENGLAND

Ban On Griffin To Continue (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MANCHESTER, July 26. The young South African fast bowler, G. Griffin, will definitely not bowl again during the current English tour, with or without an appliance on his arm. The president of the South African Cricket Association (Mr Geoff Chubb) said today that the ban on Griffin, imposed by the tourists, after he had been repeatedly no-balled for “throwing” early in the tour, would be continued. Last week Griffin spent some time bowling in the nets at Lord’s wearing a leather-covered aluminium splint on his arm, in an effort to “straighten” his bowling action. This caused some speculation as to whether Griffin might bowl again on the tour, wearing the splint.
