Pedestrian Crossings
Sir,—Cr. Skellerup is to be thanked by pedestrians for recognition of their existence and need for safety. They have not eyes in the back of their heads. Speeding drivers overtake, cut iri front and round corners where pedestrians are already on the road and unaware of the car’s approach from behind till jammed on brakes rack their ears. Men and women have had to jump forward to escape or back to the footpath to wait and wait. It appears common practice for drivers to speed round gutter edges while looking in the opposite direction across bare roads.—Yours,’ etc., GUIDANCE PLEASE. July 22, 1960.
