The main relief measures comprise the free transport of affected stock up to 100 miles, the free transport of hay up to £5 a ton. and State guarantee of overdrafts where the settlers are unable to arrange other finance. Re-grassing subsidies would not be granted until the committee had made the necessary recommendations. The Minister toured the worstaffected areas of Kerepehi and Ngatea. He saw the waterlogged pastures, scarcely any of which was carrying stock, and he promised to do what he could to make available suitable run-off country.
