SNOW AND FROSTS
Stock Losses In N.S.W.
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 21. Severe frosts which have followed an abnormal autumn drought have brought the stockfeed position in parts of New South Wales to - a critical point. Accompanied by Widespread snowdalls, they have killed off pastures. Heavy stock losses have occurred. The worst hit area is the New England district in northern New South Wales, where graziers are hand*feeding stock. The position is expected to remain critical until the spring. A heavy blanket of snow covered thousands, of square miles of New South Wales yesterday, and the freeze continued last night. Record falls pear Oberon yesterday forced farmers to , dig through Bft deep snow drifts. Farmers said sheep flocks had been buried in a 50 miles an hour blizzard and losses would be heavy. The State’s “snow belt” stretched 700 miles from Mount Kosciusko, Australia’s highest peak, near the Victoriain border, to Glen Innes, 70 miles from the Queensland border.
