FACIAL TREATMENT BY ELECTRONICS

Doctors Impressed By New Machine [From a Special Correspondent] NEW YORK, July 18. Doctors from all over the United States crowded into a Miami hotel room this week to look at a “twofaced” man. • One side of his face is that of a man of 59—which he is—the other is that of a 40-year-old. The youthful effect is the work of a tiny electronics machine which the man, Maxwell Zeigler, invented in collaboration with a doctor.

Zeigler told the crowd of doctors this week, “Go ahead, feel my face.” The doctors were in Miami for a conference. Some used magnifying glasses as they prodded and pulled at his flesh for an hour. The right side was firm and taut to the touch. The left was soft and saggy. Differences in tone and texture were marked. The right side was pinker, too. . A leading surgeon from New York commented, “It’s astonishing. Look, at his lips. One side lifts youthfully at the corner, the other droops. • ’ “One side has a deep wrinkle from nose to lip, the other has only a faint reminder. “Crow’s feet and a heavy fluid bag exist beneath the left, eyebut have been almost erased from the right side. “Such results could not be achieved by the established methods x>f facial revitalisationplastic surgery and so on.” Zeigler, one of America’s foremost electronics experts, would not reveal all details of the machine,‘which resembles an electric shaver. He said, “The most I’ll say at this stage is that it sends out a pulsating current which gently selects and stimulates through contractions of certain nerves and muscles. “I treated one side of my face daily for 28 days with the machine. • “Then I stopped—and for 15 months I have not used the njachine at all. “I wanted to see whether the effects would, hold or -quickly deteriorate.” Zeigler now believes the youthful side of his face will age naturally. He added, “This is the first public announcement of the machine but in the last few months it has been used extensively in hospitals.

“I wanted to make certain of its perfection before making an official announcement.” So far 6000 people have used the treatment. The best results have been obtained by Linda Berning, aged 16, whose face was damaged in a car accident. In less than a year 75 per cent, of her facial balance has been restorejl.—Associated Newspapers Feature Services.
