Water Infiltration In Sewers
Because the Ministry of Works is responsible for the provision of public health engineering services, investigations are being intensified into means of reducing infiltration of ground water into sewers, says the annual report of the Ministry of Works. Overloading of sewers because of this cause can involve very
considerable expenditure for corrective measures. An important way of preventing this trouble has been the adoption of flexible joints for clay sewer pipes. It is pleasing to see all interests actively engaged in this workmanufacturers, research organisations, New Zealand Institute of Engineers, Standards Institute, Government departments ana local bodies. Considerable savings in over-all costs of new sewer systems should result, says the report.
