Tomatoes On Sale
The first of the new season's local hothouse tomatoes were on sale at 7s 3d a pound, in the Christchurch produce markets on Thursday. The supply of tomatoes was small, and is not expected to increase for two or three weeks. Local grapes sold from -12 s a pound, but the demand was slight. - Keri Keri tree tomatoes, selling from 25s a case, and Chinese gooseberries at Is 9d a pound, were in good demand. A small shipment of Island oranges, tangerines and mandarins and Australian navel oranges is expected later next week.
