OVERLOADING “CAUSES CONCERN”

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 22. Overloads imposed by heavy earthmoving machinery on highways was causing concern and there might be a need to refuse, permits for the enormous 1 machines being Imported at high cost said the Director of Reading (Mr P. L. Laing) at the meeting of the National Roads Board today. The board decided that the Ministry of Works be asked to suggest to the Customs Department that the opinion of the Roads Board be obtained before licences were issued for heavy off-road machinery.
