PETITION ON TRANSPORT
Claims Of Hoon Hay Residents
“As residents ot an area developed for some years, and neglected in the provision of public transport, we feel consideration should be given to provide a satisfactory service within our area,” says a petition forwarded to the Christchurch Transport Board and signed by 95 residents and ratepayers of Samuel, Kevin, Dalkeith, Downing, Newland streets and Victors road in the Hoon Hay district. 'A deputation presented the petition to the general manager of the Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) yesterday. “As ratepayers we are concerned that the board has been compelled to extend the Lewis street service to a portion of Hoon Hay which is virtually undeveloped and sparsely populated, thus necessitating a subsidy from rates to support a service which will undoubtedly prove unprofitable.” The petition asks that the board request the Licensing Authority to reconsider the route originally planned by way of Lewis street, Wyn, Samuel and Newlands streets. Or, alternatively, the present terminus in Victors road be extended to the junction of Victors road and Newland street, or a loop service be run from the city by way of Hoon Hay road and Sparks road, returning to the city by way of Victors road, Newland, Samuel, Wyn and Lewis streets, and Hoon Hay road.
