TRANSISTOR AT MEETING
Ears Cocked At Waimairi
Asked his opinion by the chairman (Mr A. R. Blank) on a matter under discussion by the Waimairi County Council last evening, Cr. J. I. Colligan apologised and said he had not heard what was said.
Mr Blank (dryly): It is hard to listen to the council and to the radio at the same time! Cr. H. J. Reynolds: Any income tax reduction? V With an earphone in his left hand. Cr. Colligan was listening to a transistor radio in his pocket. Later a photographer was given permission to photograph the council and asked councillors just to continue their meeting.
Mr Blank: Just continue, as is. Cr. Colligan. But Cr. Colligan put the earphone away while the photograph was taken. At supper time, all the councillors listened to Cr. Colligan's radio and heard Mr Nordmeyer reduce the tax on cigarettes (laughter) and cars (applause).
