FIRE IN TAPESTRY FACTORY
More Than £20,0W Worth Of Damage (grew Ztttlmtd Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 20. Damage between £20,000 and £26,000 was done*in a fire which destroyed part of toe Irish Tapestry Company’s factory in Manukau road, Pukekobe, early- today. Almost all , the factory’s machines were ruined and most of the stock of yams and cloth was lost. The losses were covered by insurance. The factory employs 34 women and girls. Tbe Pukekohe Volunteer Firs Brigade reached the fire within four minutes of the alarm about 1 am. and managed to save hall the building. Putting up a curtain of water, they forced ths flames baek and cut off the fire at a partition waD in tee middle of the factory. »- Praising the brigade today, the manager, Mr M. R. J: Draper, said. “You have to see; the factory to believe how cleanty the fire was cut off in the middle—and at a wooden wall too. The brigade did a great job."
