The Canterbury members of the New Zealand basketball team, which will tour Australia next month, will join the rest of the team in Auckland next week. The team will practice for a few days before meeting the Auckland representative side on July 29. After six weeks of intensive training the Canterbury players are in excellent form. Misses Colleen McMaster and Judy Dunlop, goal shooters, are now throwing 200 goals a day from almost every position in the circle. Mrs Pam Edmonds has shown great form at centre and Miss Shirley Patrick has improved her defensive play considerably. The four players have been training with the Canterbury side. The games in Australia will be played under international rules, With four quarters of 15 minutes. There will be breaks of three minutes between the first and third quarters and a break of 10 minutes at half-time. New Zealand’s first game, will be against New "South "Wales on August 4. ■ Final Preparation The Auckland Rugby' team to defend the Ranfurly Shield this season has reached the final stage of a thorough preparation. Hie selector (Mr F. Allen) re-
cently called in the former Otago coach (Mr V. G. Cavanagh) to speak to the training squad. Both Mr Allen and the members of the squad praised Mr Cavanagh’s knowledge of the game. ® # Seats Sold Out All reservable accommodation at Carlaw Park for the first Rugby League test between New Zealand and France has been sold out. But the capacity of the ground is such that most of the spectators will get a good view of the game. The total seating is for 9000. While in Auckland the Frenchmen will have a light official programme, with only a few functions to attend. » # e Ranfurly Shield Squad Absent from the Auckland Ranfurly Shield squad announced on Tuesday by the selector (Mr F. Allen) is the volatile Maori forward, A. Pryor. Apparently Pryor is still out of the game with an injury he sustained early in the season. Two half-backs, A. Edgar and D. Connor, have been included. Connor, the former Australian international. has been playing excellent Rugby in the Auckland dub competition and should prove a valuable asset to the squad. 4
