MODERN SCIENCE FOR YOUTH
Royal Society Lectures Exceptional interest is being shown by Christchurch post-pri-mary schools in a new series of science talks being organised by the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand. These Saturday evening programmes will be:—July 30, “Zoology today,” by Professor G. A. Knox; August 6, “Geology today,” by Professor R. S. Allan; August 13, “Physics today,” by Dr. C. D. Ellyett. Each of the lectures will be illustrated with samples and experiments. With returns in from nine of the 15 post-primary schools invited to send sixth-form pupils, enrolments are:—zoology 130, geology 130, physics 178. The big new lecture theatre in the old school of engineering at the University of Canterbury will be used. It seats about 260. If restriction of numbers is necessary, it will probably be done in proportion to each school’s sixth form roll. This series is an addition to the Royal Society’s programmes in recent years to bring modern science before young people.
