POWERLINE FLASH-OVER
Effect On System In Christchurch
A flash-over on the WaitakiGlenavy 110 kv line at 7.57 a.m. yesterday caused the Waitaki power station, which generates 60 megawatts, to drop out of the system. Thirty megawatts of load was dropped in Christchurch and Dunedin to counteract the drop in voltage and frequency. Power for water heating in Christchurch was cut off, and parts of the city had power cut off completely. Power was restored in Christchurch at 8.14 a.m. after spare units at Lake Coleridge had been brought into operation, and the Waitaki station had come back on to the system on one line. Repairs to the damaged line were completed yesterday.
