LAY ASSEMBLY APPROVED
“Most Fruitful Suggestion”
"This is the most fruitful suggestion we have heard,” said the Rev. M. R. Hodder at the annual meeting of the National Council of Churches after the Rev. A. A. Brash had suggested that a lay ecumenical assembly should be held In 1962. “The clergy could be distinguished by their absence. There would be full opportunity for lay leadership.” There was a need for adults to meet one another and deal with the problems of the community. The lay assembly would be open to adults from all member churches, said Mr Brash. The meeting approved the suggestion and gave the executive full responsibility to plan for the assembly.
