PENICILLIN RESEARCH
Superior Types Developed (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 4. A British research team tonight said it had produced penicillins which, after injection, are completely absorbed into the blood stream, and kill all staphylococci including those resistant to the older penicillins, without harm to the patient The claim is made in the annual report of the Beecham group, whose research team developed th 4: new penicillins; “it is confidently hoped,” says the report, “that one such peni-. cillin, effective to' man, will be available before long to the medical profession after appropriate clinical trials.” The report says the next objective is “to achieve the biosynthesis of a new penicillin effective against resistant staphylococci when administered orally.” The company developed broxil,
the first synthetic penicillin, which became available to Britain to October last year. Beechams claim that broxil produced a greater anti-biotic concentration to the blood after oral administration than any other known penicillin.
