Coloured Stockings
Sir,—l am a member of a professional establishment and lately I have heard many unpleasant remarks by senior members of the profession regarding the coloured stockings w.orn by some junior female members. I would like to remind those people who regard these stockings as "just another modern trend” that the wearers are really more modest than those who criticise. It is not many years since lisle stockings were the accepted thing. What a hue and cry went up when “the modern trend” called for a lighter stocking. ‘lt isn’t right for a woman to expose her legs,” was a common remark. Now the modern trend is to cover the legs, and that is not acceptable. Girls should wear coloured, warm stockings if they wish. As a grandmother I wish that I could wear my stockings in bright colours rather than grey.—Yours, etc., GRANDMA. July 6, 1960.
