STOPPAGE AT COLLIERY
Work Expected To Resume Today (New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH. July 6. The Liverpool State Colliery at Rewanui is expected to resume work tomorrow, after a dispute which put the mine out of production today. This is the second stoppage at the mine in recent weeks. The previous stoppage occurred when there was a dispute over the smoke problem in the McArthur and Baird sections of the mine. The union president (Mr R. H. Mitchell) said that the mine manager (Mr D. Buist) had refused to meet a deputation from the union, which comprised union oflicials and three witnesses. Mr Buist said that he had refused to meet both the executive and the deputation from the section concerned. “I would only meet the executive —this being according to agreement,” he said. Later, the union vice-president (Mr J. Menzies) said, “The action of the manager is high-handed to say the least As in the past witnesses to disputes, when required, have always been received by previous managers.”
