Experimental Work With Trees
Trees of high-altitude species, and shrubs that in their native habitat withstand considerable use from native animals, will be experimented with by the New Zealand Forest Service at its Rangiora forest and range experimental station. This experimental station has two mountain nurseries, one at 3000 feet and the other at 4000 feet, both of which are in the Craigieburn range. The new species ot trees will be obtained from all over the world.
The experimental work is concerned with finding ways of preventing erosion and healing eroded areas by the introduction of overseas species which have had a proven ability to grow in the presence of animals.
