Give-Way Signs
Sir,—On both sides of Rutland street where it crosses Innes road there are large and prominent signs saying “Give Way.” Do these signs mean that the motorist approaching Innes road must give way to traffic from both directions? If this is the case I suggest the signs should read “Give way to all traffic.” As a frequent user of Iftnes • road I find I still have to give way to traffic on my right and that these signs are more honoured in the breach than the observance so becoming a dapger to the eastwest traffic.—Yours, etc., I. H. STRINGER. June 19, 1960.
[The City Council Traffic Superintendent (Mr G. P. Kellar) said: “The ‘Give Way’ signs erected in Rutland street at the intersection of Innes road comply in every respect with the shape, size, colour, and wording for such signs as prescribed by amendment No.- 2 of the Traffic Regulations, 1956. Detected breaches of failure to comply with the regulations governing such signs are reported for appropriate action.”]
