SHORTAGE OF NURSES
Ward Closed At Masterton
(New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, June 24.
The shortage of nursing staff in hospitals in the Wairarapa has precipitated a crisis and the Wairarapa Hospital Board will reduce the number of patients in the Masterton Hospital. The geriatic ward has been closed owing to the shortage of nursing staff and the patients have been distributed among other wards. 1 The acting-medical superintendent of the hospital (Dr. W. B. Jackson) told today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board that the ward would be closed until at least December, 1960. “Surgical waiting list cases will also have to be restricted,” the superintendent reported. “The trainees coming in this year will not affect the position until the end of the year.”
