Severe Injuries At Le Mans

LE MANS (France), June 24.

Three doctors fought throughout the night to save the life of Jonathan Sieff. the 25-year-old British racing driver injured last night when his car crashed during trials for tomorrow’s Le Mans endurance race. This morning he was taken off the danger list. He has a broken pelvis and three broken ribs. Sieff is the heir to the Marks andt Spencer British chain store ent-, pire. His Lotus car left the trick at a high speed, plunged through protective straw bales and reared into the air. SiefTs team-mate, the Britiai* driver. Innes Ireland, said Sieff had been lying behind a Fiat* Abafth when he braked suddenly. "He left the track and his car hU a telegraph pole or a tree." Ireland explained. “The accident took place in darkness. It was about 10 minutes before they found him. but he was taken very quickly to the clinic." The Lotus manager. Mr Edger Kehoe, said: “No-one knows for certain how the accident happened. The police said he wes found 20 feet away from the car. which was broken in two parts."
