Two Arrested For Questioning
KINGSTON (Jamaica), June 24. A former United States soldier and a Jamaican are being held for questioning by police today in connexion with the killing of two British soldiers and wounding of two others in an ambush by rebels on Tuesday. Police said the American. Roy Malachi, of Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in a raid in Kingston. They said he had two revolvers in his possession and had been hiding since escaping through a police cordon after the ambush. The Jamaican was identified as Earle Graham , Privates Brian Thomas Metherell and Daniel John Philpott, of the Royal Hampshire Regiment, were killed while searching a rebel camp for arms. Two other soldiers wounded in the ambush were reported to be in a satisfactory condition.
Police and military forces began a big manhunt after the bearded rebels, members of the extremist, marijuana - smoking Rastafarian cult, which wants to send negroes back to Africa, made off in a van into the remote hills. Police said Malachi, described as a United States Army veteran, came to Jamaica about a week ago, shortly after the return to the island of Reynold henry, the son of the Rastafarian cult leader, the Rev. Claudius Henry. Police said that both Henrys had served in the United States Air Force. The elder Henry and 15 followers are awaiting trial on treason and felony charges. Eighteen persons have been .arrested on charges of illegal possession of firearms in a police search for weapons throughout the island.
