Russia Warns Pakistan
MOSCOW, June 24.
Russia last night again warned Pakistan that it would deliver counter-blows at bases in Pakistan that are used for American spy flights. The Russian Note, the second since the American U-2 plane incident on May 1, warned that if Pakistan territory was used for similar provocations to the U-2 incident, Russia would be compelled to “render harmless" the bases concerned.
The Note also . expressed dissatisfaction with Pakistan's reply to the first Soviet warning of May 13. The Pakistan Government, the Russians said, “instead of giving a clear answer on the inadmissibility of continuing to allow the use of Pakistani territory by the United States Air Force for aggressive aims against the Soviet Union, tries to avoid responsibility by referring to certain assurances by the United States authorities. What these assurances are’ worth, it would seem, must be well known to the Pakistani Government.”
