EXPENDITURE ON ROADS
Increase So Far This Year

■ National roads fund expenditure in April and May rose by £437,999 compared with the corresponding months last year, to £1,529,380. The statement of receipts and payments tabled at today’s meeting of the National Roads Board showed the major items under this heading as:— State highways construction, £1,108,249; State highways maintenance, £381,333. Receipts in April and May this year totalled £2.824,848, compared with £2,792,257 for the corresponding period in 1959. Petrol tax, £2,495,805 (last year £2,423,607) was the principal source of revenue. ■-
