Chamour Beats Alcaeus

LONDON, June 22. The Australian jockey. Garnet Bougoure, rode the colt Chamour to a one-length win over the favourite, Alcaeus, in the £5OOO Irish Derby over one mile and a half at the Curragh, Kildare, today. Alcaeus, the Epsom Derby runnerup and the hot favourite at 3 to 1 on, was ridden by the Australian, Ron Hutchinson. Third, five lengths behind in the field of seven, was Prince Chamier, stable companion of Chamour. Chamour. the 3 to 1 second favourite, was involved in a recent alleged doping case which led to the 18-month suspension of his trainer. Vincent O’Brien. He is now trained by O’Brien’s brother, “Phonsie.” The suspension was passed down last month by the Irish Turf Club after investigations into the alleged doping of Chamour in a race at the 1 Curragh in April.
