WORLD RACE AT YONKERS

Tough Test For Caduceus

(N.Z Press Association —Copurtaht)

NEW YORK, June 22.

Caduceus will have his last fling at Yonkers Raceway tomorrow night at taking the 25,000 dollars first stake for an international race. He again faces tough opposition.

Caduceus filled fourth and third positions in the two previous races of the international series, each worth 50.000 dollars.

He won 4000 dollars in the 12furlongs event on June 2 and 6000 dollars for his third over 10 furlongs on June 9. With his regular driver. Jack Litten, in the sulky, Caduceus tried to win by staying away from the lead on June 2 and by frontrunning on June 9.

Tomorrow he will move from number three barrier over eight furlongs, the standard American and Canadian distance for pacing events. Although Widower Creed and the world record-holder Bye Bye Byrd won the longer races, they were racing then over distances that were supposed not to suit them, but to favour Caduceus. With Australia’s Fettle again a non-starter, Caduceus tomorrow must take on alone this top-notch opposition of four American and two Canadian pacers. Over the mile Litten can expect Caduceus to be the target for every horse in the field, because the little New Zealand horse has won a great deal of respect by his showings so far.
