Board Closes Wharf

(New Zealand Pres* Association) AUCKLAND. June 23. The Auckland Harbour Board has decided to close the Birkenhead wharf, scene of three tragedies this year, to all vehicular traffic. The assistant to the general manager, Mr R. Lorimer, said engineers had found the wharf had deteriorated. A heavy 2ft high barrier, made from concrete blocks and timber piles, will be erected. Mr Lorimer said that no vehicle would be able to smash its way through the barrier.
