BLOAT IN COWS COSTS £388,000

Waikato
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, June 20.
The incidence of bloat cost dairy farmers in the Waikato provincial district some £388.000, according to a special survey carried out by the dairy section of Waikato Federated Farmers and discussed at their meeting today. The survey stated that Waikato farmers spent about £25,000 on preventative materials for bloat, spent 259.000 hours caring for bloated cows, operated on at least 1200 cows, and lost at least 4000 cows. In the figures of loss of production from bloated cows no notice was taken of cows which recovered from bloat
The highest losses were in the Putaruru district and, peculiarly, the lowest losses were in the ad- • jacent district of Matamata. [
