LONDON, June 19. A. E. Moss, the 29-year-old Middlesex fast bowler, who has taken 73 wickets this reason, is included among the 13 from whom the England test selectors will make their final choice for the second test against South Africa, which begins at Lord’s on Thursday.

England won the first test at Edgbaston by 100 run*. The 12, with ages, are:— M. C. Cowdrey (Kent), captain, aged 27; R. W. Barber (Lancashire), 24; K. F. Barrington (Surrey), 29; E. R. Dexter (Sussex), 25; R. Illingworth (Yorkshire), 28; A. E. Moss (Middlesex), 29; J. M. Parks (Sussex). 28; M. J. K. Smith (Warwickshire), 26; J. B. Statham (Lancashire), 30; R. Subba Row (Northamptonshire), 28; F. S. Trueman (Yorkshire), 28; and P. Walker (Galmorgan), 24. Compared with the 12 at Edgbaston, where Barrington was subsequently named twelfth man, there is only one change—Mos* for G. Pullar, the Lancashire left-hand opening batsman, who broke a bone in his wrist during the first test. Almost certainly Barrington, who has averaged SO In his last 10 tests will play this time, with Subba Row, the Northamptonshire captain, opening the batting with Cowdrey, the England captain,' as he did in the second innings at Edgbaston. Subba Row looked extremely sound In making 32 as an opening batsman. Last year he scoied 94 when opening the innings against India in the test at the Oval.

The Lord's pitch is well known for the help it gives to the fast bowlers, and Moss, on his home ground, may be called upon to join Trueman and Statham in a seam attack. But if the selectors decide to bank on pace—Dexter, too, can take a turn. It seems likely that they will have to leave out one of the newcomers to test cricket. Barber, the Lancashire captain.
