Record Southland Lamb Kill

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 20.

Helped by the Alliance Freezing Company’s handling of just on 200,(XX) sheep and lambs since the start of operations there in March. Southland’s mutton and lamb kill for the 1959-60 season will exceed the 3.900,000 mark. It will be a record for the previous record was set last season at 3,893,012 head. The works at Makarewa, Ocean Beach and Mataura have now completed their mutton and' lamb killings, with an overall production figure of 3,715,934 head, but the Alliance works will continue to operate one chain until well into next week. The season’s figures give an increase of. about 100,000 lambs and a decrease of 65,000 sheep in with 1958-59.
