Discussions By Architects
Church architecture was discussed by Messrs J. A. Hendry and A. L. Mitchener, two Christchurth architects, at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Architectural Association. Mr Mitchener discussed the principles of church design from the basilicas of the early Christians to the churches of the present day. He illustrated his talk with slides he had taken of old and modern churches in Europe and in New Zealand. Mr Hendry discussed many points of design of churches, based on his own experience. Earlier they had criticised students’ designs for a small country church, a task set by Messrs Hendry and Mitchener. First place in the senior section was awarded to Mr N. Hey, with Mr N. J.
