ARBITRATOR’S DECISION
Copies Posted To Parties The major issue in the freezing workers dispute—the date from which the incorporation of the 24 per cent, general wage order will be effective has been decided by the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. W. Armstrong).
Mr Armstrong said in Christchurch yesterday that he would mail copies of the decision to reach the parties in Wellington this morning. Envelopes would be posted to the workers’ advocate (Mr F P. Walsh), the secretary of the North Island Freezing Companies* Association (Mr J. B. Walton), and the national secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Association (Mr S. Arnst) with an information copy to the secretary of Labour (Mr H. L Bockett).
In Christchurch yesterday Mr Arnst said he would be in Wellington by today. Mr Armstrong also left for Wellington yesterday to preside at other disputes in Conciliation Council. The date which will be fixed by Mr Armstrong will be between February B—the date which the freezing workers’ representatives and the Federation of Labour claimed the employers agreed to make incorporation effective—and May 1. Terms of the decision would be released for publication after the parties had received the information this morning, Mr Armstrong said.
