Mr Justice Haslam has been reappointed a member of the Council of Legal Education representing the Chief Justice. Mr D. W. McMullin has been
appointed to represent the council of the New Zealand Law Society, and Messrs A. C. Perry. H. R. C. Wild and J. N. Wilson have been reappointed.
Sir Arthur Porritt, New Zea-land-born surgeon to the Queen has been elected president of the ■ British Medical Association for 1960-61. Another New Zealander. ■ J Sir Douglas Robb (Auckland) was elected president for the following year, 1961-62.
The Rev. M. D. S. Cocks has been appointed vicar of the parochial district of Hinds. Mr Cocks took his master of arts degree in theology at Oxford, and has served curacies at St Mary’s, Merivale. and Geraldine. He has been vicar of Ross and 'South Westland for the last t vo years. He will take up his new < work early tn September.
The Canterbury Education Board yesterday honoured three retiring headmasters—Messrs C. “,W. Cotton (Opawa), J. A Mackie (Dunsandel) and T. K. . Stickle (Sefton). Messrs Cotton and Mackie have done the whole •of their 40 years’ teaching in s the Canterbury education district: but Mr Stickle had earlier experience in Otago and Southland. Tributes were paid to their ser„yice by the chairman (Mr A - Greenwood) and the district -senior inspector (Mr L. J Broomfield). ;._Dr. J. A. Keeling has been appointed a member of the MediRetwrch Council representing Board of Health.
Mr K. W. Fraser, president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association, has been appointed the association's representative on the board of trustees of the National Art Gallery and the Dominion Museum.
The Canterbury Education Board yesterday expressed regret at the death of Mr A. E. Lawrence, of Timaru, a member from 1940 to 1954 and chairman for three years.
