Port Hills Relay

Twenty teams pf five runners each have entered in the Port Hills relay race, being conducted for the first time today by the Marist Harrier Club. This event marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the club. The contest has been well supported by the clubs in Christchurch. and four clubs have each entered three teams. The Olympic club’s top team looks capable of winning the event, in the light of its performance in the Anglican Slosk relay recently, and the same club's second team could take the next place. However,: the No. 2 Olympic team will be weakened by the absence of J. K. McDonald, who. gained fastest time in the Queen’s Birthday holiday run.

Opposition

Other teams likely to be well up at the finish include University, Christchurch and Technical, and on paper University appears to be the strongest of the three. The Christchurch No. 1 team, although without N. Fleming and K Wallis, is youthful and full of talent? Other entries are from Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Rover Scouts and Marist, and all will have their chance in the sealed handicap section. A handsome carved wood trophy of kauri and jarrah will be presented to the winning team, and there will also be a cup for the sealed handicap section.
