FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation: A complex trough of low pressure covering much of the Tasman Sea is moving eastwards onto New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate winds from a northerly quarter and partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with a few brief light showers during the morning; possibly a change to colder south-westerlies with further showers in South Canterbury late tonight. Outlook: occasional showers. Marlborough.—North-westerlies, fresh to strong about the Sounds, otherwise moderate; mainly cloudy, with occasional rain developing this morning, chiefly in the Sounds and about the western Ranges, clearing later in the day; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: showers. Nelson.—Moderate northerlies predominating; cloudy skies; occasional rain developing; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: mainly fair. West Coast.—Moderate variable winds; rain at first, clearing later to changeable, cooler weather, with occasional showers. Outlook: passing showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
