WAIRAKEI ROAD REPAIRS
In preparation for the reconstruction of Wairakel road, the City Council asked the Christchurch Drainage Board to install five sewer laterals to sections the owners of which have no plans for building. The board will be asked to install the laterals and recover the cost when the buildings are erected. Later trenching would not only interfere with the free use of the road, but also tend to weaken the surrounding country with possibly permanent harm to the foundations and surface of the road, the works committee said. The cost of the road reconstruction work was about £25,000.
