LABOUR PARTY CANDIDATES
Sitting South Island Members Endorsed
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 10. Mr O. J. Henderson, a member of the Invercargill City Council, is the Labour Party’s nominee for the Invercargill seat at the General Election. His selection was announced at the Labour Party conference today. Mr J. Fahey will be the party’s Clutha candidate. Mr Fahey, a farmer at Lawrence, was the party's candidate for this electorate in 1957.
All South Island sitting members have been endorsed. They are: Mr C. F. Skinner (Buller), Mr R. M. Macfarlane (Christchurch Central), Mr P. G. Connolly (Dunedin Central), Mr N. E. Kirk (Lyttelton). Mr W. A. Hudson (Mornington), Mrs E. E. McMillan (Dunedin North), Mr M. A. Connelly (Riccarton), Mr N. G. Pickering (St Albans), Mr W. A. Fraser (St Kilda), Miss M. B. Howard (Sydenham) and the Rev. Clyde Carr (Titnaru). Mrs L -M. Ratana, M.P. for Western Maori, has again been nominated for the seat - It is understood that the sitting member for Southern Maori (Sir Eruega Tirikatene) has been nominated for that seat again, and that Mr T. P. Palkea. sitting member for Northern Maori, has also been nominated for that constituency. Mr S. Watene, of Wellington, has been nominated for Eastern Maori, which will be vacated by the sitting member, Mr T. Omana, at the end of the next Parliamentary session. If Mr Watene is successful, he will be the only non-Ratana Church Maori representative ip Parliament since 1935.
