Crippled Children Society

Sir.—As one who is interested in the welfare of handicapped children I was distressed to learn, through your correspondence column, that Miss Cradock is no longer carrying on her excellent work with the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. I understand that Miss Cradock has resigned her position as field officer with the Canterbury-West-land branch. Knowing that Miss Cradock regarded her work as a vocation and not as a job. I find this hard to understand. What I completely fail to understand is why there has been no official announcement by the society, nor any expression of regret, nor any appreciation of Mis Cradock’s exceptional services in the last seven years. As the society is supported by public donations, I think the society’s local committee has a duty to keep the public informed.—Yours, etc, P. J. CUMMINGS.

May 26, 1960. [The president of the Canterbury and Westland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society (Mr L. G. K. Steven), to whom this letter was referred, said that Miss Cradock’s resignation was received by the president and accepted by the committee.]
