WON 7 OUT OF 8 MATCHES

University Team Returns

The New Zealand Universities Rugby team is not taking the match with Canterbury lightly. Within 10 minutes ol arrival at a hotel after the flight from Australia the team went to Hagley Park for a training run.

An hour's running and passing was undertaken by the team before rain and darkness forced a stop.

Commenting on the AustraUan tour, in which the team won seven of the eight games played, the manager (Mr J. L. Jeffs) said that throughout the tour the team had played an attractive and open game. The standard of AustraUan University Rugby had not been very strong, other than Sydney University, which bad been the only team to beat the New Zealanders. The two “tests” against the Australian Universities had been hard games, said Mr Jeffs, although New Zealand had won both games by a decisive margin. The team considered the match against Canterbury would be the hardest of the tour and the players were hoping to put up a good display on Saturday. ” 'University' Rugby will be played by the team,” said Mr Jeffs.

The New Zealand Universities team to play Canterbury op Saturday is: D. C. Leary; C. L. Mitchell. A S. Clark, E. S. Diack; N. J. Brown, A S. Coleman; A. T. Edgar; B. R. Smither; P. N. Jennings, C. R. Hockley, K. Nelson, R. H. Graham; M. W. Allen, J. N. Creighton, G. Loveridge. Emergencies: B. A. Nepia, G. Linford. R. Rikys, N. C. Bracey, A. Aston, M. R. Taiaroa. Leary, Smither, Allen, Hockley. Creighton, Coleman and Rikys are Canterbury players, and it is certain their play will be watched with interest by the Canterbury selectors (Mr P. B. Vincent and Mr P. K. Rhind).
