Half-way through the £lOOO Pen-fold-Swallow golf tournament, being held on two courses at Birmingham. the leaders are a Scotsman, George Low, who had a 36hole total of 133, and the .Ryder Cup golfer, Harry Weetman, who had 134.

This was exactly the position they occupied at the same stage in the same event at Killermont, Glasgow, in 1957.

Yesterday, Low t added a sound 67 at the easier Olton course, to his 66 at Copt Heath course, the best score of the first day. Weetman followed up his 64 with a 70 over Copt Heath. Ireland’s Christy O'Connor went round the same course in 66 for a total of 135 Peter Thomson led the Australian entrants yesterday with a magnificent 66, followed by Jack Harris and Murray Crafter, both on 69.
