FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone is centred south of the South Island with a ridge of high pressure extending northwards over the country. ” Forecast:— Marlborough Sounds and the Kaikoura Coast—Fresh to strong, but decreasing, southerly winds; cloudy and cold with a few light showers at first but improving gradually this afternoon. Outlook: fine. Central Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast.—Light to moderate southerly to easterly winds; fine with moderate temperatures. Outlook: fine. Canterbury.—Light to moderate winds, tending easterly a few light showers at first about and north of Banks Peninsula; becoming fine apart from some cloudy areas persisting about the coast; temperatures cold. Outlook: fine.
