Catholic Nurses* Guild.—A demonstration on the art of make-up was given by Miss J. McGregor at the monthly meeting of the Catholic Nurses’ Guild held at the nurses’ home of the Christchurch Public Hospital. Holy mass was celebrated in the hospital chapel. Victoria League Young Contingent: A cocktail party for members and friends of the Victoria League’s Young Contingent was held in the National Club rooms in Christchurch on Friday evening. Receiving the guests were the president (Mr Robert Gtodfrey), and vice-presidents (Miss Margaret Round and Mr John Stringer). Upper Riccarton W.D.F.F.— Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Upper Riccarton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers were:— President, Mrs L. C. Holbrough; vice-presidents, Mrs P. J. Harrison, Mrs G. Glover; secretary. Mrs R. L. Williams: treasurer, Mrs G. Glover, competition winners for the year were as follows: Aggregate, Mrs A. B. Penny; competition No. 1, Mrs A. B. Penny; competition No. 2, Mrs A. B. Penny; special prizes, Mrs A. B. Penny and Mrs McKenzie. N.Z. Founders* Society.—Mr A. H. Oakes was the guest speaker at a social evening held recently by the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Founders’ Society. His talk was illustrated with slides from the Christchurch Museum, from the Dr. Barker collection.

Registered Nurses— At the monthly meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, the president of the Canterbury branch <Miss S. Rolls) reported on the recent meeting of the mental health committee in Christchurch. Miss Rolls was elected to the professional sub-committee of the organisation. Nominations for delegates to the 1961 International Council of Nurses’ Congress to be held at Melbourne resulted in the following names being forwarded to the Dominion executive:—Mrs M. Chambers, vicepresident of the New Zealand association and lady superintendent of Christchurch Hospital, Miss A. Hughes, matron of the St. Helens Hospital, Christchurch, and Miss Shirley Lowe, supervising tutor, Dunedin Public Hospital

Royal Commonwealth Society. —Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society were:—President, Mr R» J. G. Collins; vice-presi-dents, Messrs D. E. Plunket Mothers’ Club.— The annual meeting of the Richmond Plunket Mothers’ Club was held recently when the followjng officers were elected: Chairman. Mrs S. Taner; vice-chairman, Mrs S. Barrett; secretary, Mrs F. Tipple; treasurer, Mrs J. Rhind; committee, Mesdames M. Lindsay, R. Manson, B. Kay, P. Jorgensen, R. McKenzie, N. Wicks, I. Gorman, N. Oorschott, D. Cross and A. Johnston. Competition winners for the year were Mesdames R McKenzie, I. Barrow and M. Lindsay. Halkett Plunket Society:— Mrs A. H. McKay presided at the annual meeting of the Halkett Plunket Society. A presentation was made to Mrs A. B. Calder, who did not seek re-election as secretary. The president welcomed Sister Hamilton, who had recently taken up her duties in the district. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs A. H. McKay; vice-presidents, Mesdames B. Hayes, Alex McKay, J. D. Henderson; secretary, Mrs D. McKay; treasurer, Mrs A. E. Thomson. Plunket Society.— The annual meeting of the Richmond subbranch of the Plunket Society was held recently when the following officers were elected:—Patron, Dr. I. Squires; patroness. Miss A. Hine; president, Mrs A. N. Coburn; vwce-presidents, Mesdames G. B. Wilson and J. A. Scott; secretary, Mrs W. H. Cross; treasurer, Mrs A. M. Taunt; committee, Mesdames R. L. Candy, F. J. Duffy, D. Fahey, S. Tanner, A. Wise, G. Bruce, S. Daglish, B. J. Ward, J. Mulder, F. P. Eade, N. R. Beaumont, Thompson and Gardiner. Harewood W.D.F.F.—Mrs M. E. Orchard presided at the annual meeting of the Harewood branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs R. G. Wolff was welcomed. During the year the branch assisted in the work of C.0.R.5.0., the Crippled Children Association, organisations to help lepers, gifts for aged persons in hospital, the division's rest homes and housekeeper scheme as well as making donations to the headquarters fund. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs M. E. Orchard; secretary, Mrs G. Montgomery; treasurer, Mrs E. King; committee, Mesdames C. Townley, M. McQuinn, E. Richards, and H. Roseveare; advisory members, Mrs Orchard and Mrs T. Winfield.

Harewood West WD.F.F.—Mrs M. Orchard presided at the annual meeting of the Harewood West branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The president (Mrs G. Nunweek) read her annual report and thanked all members for their support during her first year in office. Officers were elected as follows: President. Mrs G. Nunweek; secretary. Mrs H.
