PRICES OF TV SETS
Complaints In Auckland "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. April 30. The cost of making television sets and the retail prices at present being charged in Auckland are being looked into by the trade practices and prices division of the Department of Industries and Commerce. At this stage the approaches to the various firms involved are “informal,” according to a spokesman in Wellington. “We have had so many letters in from time to time complaining about the cost of television sets that' we asked our Auckland office to make inquiries from the manufacturers on their cost basis,” said the spokesman. “This is to give us a general appreciation of what is being done. It is not an ‘investigation’ in the usual sense of the word. It is a preliminary approach to see what is involved in the cost structure that leads to the present price level.” It is known that some manufacturers are concerned at the high retail prices being charged for television sets.
