USE OF SHELTERS ABANDONED
YJLA.’s Reasons For Decision (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 1. The use of shelters has been abandoned by the Youth Hostel Association. At the annual meeting of the association's national council in Wellington on Saturday it was stated that peoole were mistaking premises intended as shelters for hostels. As a result. they formed a bad Impression of the association. Many districts had, as an alternative when the youth hostel was full, accommodation which provided shelter only, it was stated. These shelters did not belong to the association and it was not responsible for their upkeep. Experience had shown that people failed to distinguish between these premises and hostels This was particularly so with overseas travellers, who took the shelters to be an example of the standard of New Zealand youth hostels. It was because of this and the harm it might do the organisation that the council decided to abandon the use of such shelters. A motion was carried that their whereabouts be deleted from the association’s handKnc.V
