Rugby New Stand For Athletic Park
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 29.
The Wellington Rugby Union announced today its decision to proceed this season with the construction of a double-decker stand on the western bank at Athletic Park. The stand, comprising 4800 covered seats (about 600 more than in the existing stand on the eastern side of the field) and 6000 seats on the open upper deck, is expected to be ready before the French team plays here next year. The scheme is being financed in part by the sale of 750 seats on a 20-year prepaid membership basis, as in Auckland and Christchurch. The seats, costing £lOO each, will be available to their purchasers for all Rugby matches from the start of next season until the end of the 1980 season.
