Sherry Down Drains

About 150 gallons of Australian light sherry flowed along the railway lines into the gutters and down drains in Quay street, Auckland, about 9 a.m. yesterday. Three hogsheads, 50 gallons in each, rolled off a truck when a rope slipped. Bubbling and glinting pale red in the sunshine, the wine poured out. One or two eyewitnesses rushed into the area with tin cups and milk bottles, saving and sampling some of the sherry as it drained out of one of the hogsheads. The driver of the truck, Mr B. Simeon, and an assistant swept the sherry away in a flood towards the drains.— (P.A.)
